The MechMan S Series 320 amp high output alternator for the 2006 to 2011 Honda Civic 1.8L is built for extreme electrical demand and maximum output applications. This alternator is ideal for large car audio systems, multiple amplifiers, lithium battery setups, and vehicles that require significantly more charging capability than stock.
All 170 amp, 240 amp, and 320 amp Honda applications use the same heavy duty regulator found in MechMan’s 400 amp alternators. Due to Honda’s factory Electrical Load Detector system, the battery warning light will illuminate once installed. This is expected behavior and does not indicate a charging issue. When installed correctly, the alternator will charge properly.
Honda’s ELD system only monitors current draw through factory wiring. Most aftermarket electrical upgrades pull power directly from the battery, bypassing the ELD. Because the ELD does not detect the additional load, the ECU limits alternator output to approximately 12.3 volts.
To resolve this, this alternator includes a P101 one wire harness that must be connected to a switched 12V source such as a fuse box circuit. The factory alternator plug will not be used. This connection is required for proper operation.
This alternator is also an excellent solution for CMAX and other higher voltage lithium battery systems. With the optional P101 L lithium charging harness, charging voltage can be increased to meet advanced battery requirements.
The 320 amp S Series alternator is focused on maximum output and is not designed to charge efficiently at low idle speeds. It is intended for high RPM operation and extreme power demands. All S Series alternators feature a 6 phase design, 12 diodes, twin rectifier plates, and excellent airflow for long service life under severe conditions.
