The MechMan S Series 240 amp high output alternator for the 2006 to 2011 Honda Civic 1.8L is designed for vehicles with serious electrical demand. This alternator is built for upgraded audio systems, aftermarket accessories, and applications that require significantly more charging capability than the factory system can provide.
All 170 amp, 240 amp, and 320 amp S Series Honda applications are built using the same heavy duty regulator found in MechMan’s 400 amp alternators. Due to Honda’s factory ELD charging system, the vehicle’s battery warning light will illuminate once this alternator is installed. This is expected behavior and does not indicate a charging issue. When installed correctly, the alternator will charge properly and reliably.
Honda vehicles use an Electrical Load Detector, or ELD, which limits alternator output based on detected current draw through factory wiring. Most aftermarket electrical systems pull power directly from the battery, bypassing the ELD. As a result, the ECU keeps alternator output low, typically around 12.3 volts, even when additional amperage is needed.
To correct this, this alternator is supplied with a P101 one wire harness that must be connected to a switched 12V source, such as a fuse box circuit. The factory alternator plug will not be used. This connection is required for proper operation.
This alternator is also an excellent solution for customers running CMAX or other higher voltage lithium battery systems. With the optional P101-L lithium charging harness, charging voltage can be increased to meet the requirements of advanced battery setups.
MechMan S Series alternators feature a 6-phase design that delivers strong output in a compact and durable package. The 240 amp version offers the best balance between peak output and charging performance at idle, making it ideal for daily driven vehicles. The 320 amp version is designed for maximum output and is not intended to charge efficiently at low idle speeds.
All S Series alternators feature 12 diodes, twin rectifier plates, and excellent airflow to ensure long service life, even under extreme electrical demand.
